President’s Update 1/19/19

Wowwww, what a FANTASTIC Happy Hour event by PPA’s social committee.  If you missed Wednesday’s PPA Social Event…….no worries, you’ll get at least 10 more this year, and let me tell you………they will blow you away!  Great job Jaye and the team…really appreciate the planning that’s going into these events.

Winners, winners, winners………PPA is getting so many medalists, I’m just going to list their medals by Tournament (and that’s a statement in itself).

Southwest Regional Medalists:
Gold –  Kristin Jennings, Terry Gutierrez, Dave Porubcan.
Silver – Dave Porubcan, Jeff Bray, Jaye Allen, Jeff Ashworth, JT Shultz, Jesse Serrano.
Bronze – Kristin Jennings, Sue Brogaard, Keith West, Dale Allen, JT Shultz, Jim Thomas.

Tommy Wong Medalists:
Gold – Tom Riley (about time, way to go Tom).
Silver –  Sue Brogaard, Dave Porubcan, Keith West, Larry Laux, Dale Allen
Bronze – Jeff Bray

Congrats to all the medalists, stay tuned, sure there’s LOTS more to come.

Next……Round Robins will be starting in March (held weekly).  We have 3 categories, each with a Team Captain as follows:

Diane Cassidy – 3.0 Skill Level
Jaye Allen – 3.5 Skill Level
Kristin Jennings – 4.0 Skill Level

I’ll send out an eblast next week on HOW TO sign up for this event, but there’s a catch (there always is)………you MUST BE A MEMBER…… final reminder, if you haven’t renewed, renew now!  Members who have not renewed by the end of the month will be deleted from our email list and you’ll miss out on all the fun (did you know only MEMBERS may attend the SOCIALS?).

Lessons…… all skill levels will begin in March.  We have Lessons for Beginners (FREE to all, members or the community at large), Novice Lessons (FREE to all, members or the community at large), and an Intermediate CLINIC (2 hours, strenuous, FREE to members, $10 fee for non-members).  I’ll provide more details on HOW TO sign up for lessons/clinics next wk as well.

Four More Update – We are getting soooo close to having enough for the courts (not the lights, so PLEASE KEEP Pledging/Donating).  We’re now asking for firm quotes to start construction in SPRING (depends upon the weather, but SOON).

We’ll also be announcing “FLASH TOURNAMENTS” next week as well…….so stay tuned for the “HOW TO” eblast next week.

Snow Days……….sad but it’s true…….snow and Pickleball don’t go together.  If you see snow on the courts, DO NOT attempt to remove it with a shovel (or anything else)……..just let it melt.  To bring the point home (and protect some people from themselves) the City will be locking the courts if it snows (and snow is present on the courts).  There are NOT that many snow days, so take a deep breath and enjoy a pickleball free day (can’t believe I just said that!).

HELP – I need EACH member to help their club, and continue to enjoy all the round robins, flash tournaments, lessons/clinics, and socials……..I’d like to ask each of you to act as an ombudsman on the courts and be friendly to new players, and introduce them to the club.  Our website does a great job of explaining the benefits…..which depend upon membership…….so make a new friend, and drag them in!

Pickle On,
