FREE BEGINNER LESSONS on the first four Mondays of each month at 5:30PM May through August.

Prescott Pickleball Association is providing free Beginner Pickleball instruction for the new player at the Prescott Pickleball Courts at Pioneer Park at 5:30 PM on the first 4 Mondays of each month from April through August (see calendar).

Pickleball is a paddle sport created for all ages and skill levels. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players. It is a fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong.

Lesson will go over basic safety and equipment, rules of the game, and some beginner play. There will be paddles and balls available for those without equipment. Sneakers, preferably tennis shoes, required.

Just show up to join the fun. Learn to play pickleball.

Instructors:

  • 1st Monday: Jerry and Claudene Northwood
  • 2nd Monday: Darrell DuPee and Bob Atherton
  • 3rd Monday:  Randy and Barbara Lucas
  • 4th Monday:  Glen Brower and Peg Travers

Referee Training

Referee Training is available on the 1st and 3rd Mondays in April, May and June.

Pickleball tournaments use referees to officiate matches at all levels to ensure fair play, help the events run smoothly and ensure everyone has the same experience regarding the enforcement of the rules. The Prescott Pickleball Association is hosting the Round-Up Tournament on June 21-23, 2018, and is offering referee training to those considering to volunteer at this event. There is no cost for this training being provided by Douglas Seefeld, USAPA Certified Referee.

Sessions will be held the 1st and 3rd Mondays in April, May and June from 9-11:00 AM at the Pioneer Park Courts. No registration is required and the sessions are not a progression of learning. Participants can expect to get individualized attention in using score sheets, on-court instruction, shadowing, rule explanations, recreational referee practice and adequate experience to feel confident refereeing at the tournament.

PPA will provide clipboards, score sheets, pencils, server clips and access to the rule book. Participants may bring a timing device (watch with a second hand or stop watch), hydration and proper weather related attire along with a desire to learn.

Open to all. Show up. It’s FREE.

See calendar for current schedule.

3.5 Skill Clinic

SKILLS CLINIC – APRIL 22 @ 2:00pm to 4:00pm

This clinic will use a combination of drills using ball machines and partners and will focus on many of the skills needed at the 3.5 level to advance into competitive play. We’ll have space on four courts with a maximum participant count of 16. This will give all players ample time to use the machines for the designated drills and then move on to partner drills focused on ways they can learn how to practice with others wishing to enhance their games.

Examples of skills to be emphasized include Drop Shots, Blocking, Baseline Drives, Dinking, Volley Drops, Quick Volley, Lobs and Smashes.

The clinic will provide 4 machines, 4 coaches, practice balls and structured drills. Participants should plan appropriate hydration and weather related considerations.

$5 for members, $10 for non-members.

Please bring cash ($5 PPA members with name tag or $10 for non-members). Liability waivers will be required at check-in. Thank you.

Four More at Pioneer Park

FOUR MORE at Pioneer Park!  In April 2018, Prescott Pickleball Association started raising funds for the construction of FOUR MORE Prescott Pickleball Courts at Pioneer Park with an estimated completion about July 2019.

The 2016 Fundraising for our first public pickleball courts was a success with the help of our Contributors. Since the opening  of the Prescott Pickleball Courts at Pioneer Park in June 2017, our expectations have been exceeded with new picklers coming out almost every day to learn about this addicting sport. We also are seeing families and juniors take to the courts, and we discovered that we need more courts sooner than anticipated.

Read on for how you can be a part of this growing sport, and check out the fundraising reports at the bottom.

In 2018, the PPA hosted several events throughout the year that benefited both youth and adults. Read more>>
